People Directory
Finding faculty and staff at Simon Fraser University
In 2013, an external design group evaluated Simon Fraser University's website and discovered two issues with the people directory: (1) faculty and staff had difficulty finding it, and (2) the directory information was fragmented across multiple areas. Using these issues as a starting point, I built a prototype to show my team a concept for the directory. The goal was to get development resources for moving the concept into production.
This was an individual project in which I designed, developed and presented a prototype.

One Location for all Directories
The university has three separately managed directories in various locations. To make them available in a single location, I designed a central directories page where visitors can find the relevant directory.

Accessing Directories Anywhere
After researching existing ways to locate all three directories, I noticed the A-Z Directory hover menu. This was a good oppurtunity for providing quick access to all the directories. By replacing the links with ones that point to the main directories, visitors can quickly access any directory from any page.

The Outcome
I walked my team through the prototype, which was well received. Unfortunately the required resources where not available at the time so the prototype was put aside.
On reflection, the project should have been split into two smaller projects. The first would focus on quickly implementing the parts that provide better access to the directories. The second project would redesign the people directory at a later date.
